Elephant Skin was composed for the 6th Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition under commission from the Centre for the Diffusion of Contemporary Music. It premiered on 28 July 2002, at l’Auditori of Barcelona, performed by the Cadaqués Orchestra conducted by the two finalists from the competition: Jonathan Pasternack and Vasily Petrenko.
