Jesús Torres Awarded at the Ópera XXI Prizes

Last night, the 7th edition of the Ópera XXI Awards — the so-called "Goya Awards of Opera" — was held at the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia.
Jesús Torres was one of the award recipients for his opera Tránsito, receiving the 'Boost to Contemporary Creation' prize. The composer expressed his gratitude to Joan Matabosch, artistic director of Teatro Real, for commissioning the work — a story based on a Spanish Civil War exile, drawn from a 1944 text by Max Aub.
Here are some words from the composer during the award ceremony: “I’m grateful that this award exists. The genre must be updated, with texts that speak to us about the present or the recent past, that challenge us.”
Congratulations!
Tránsito premiered on May 29 at Teatro Real, with musical direction by Jordi Francés and stage direction by Eduardo Vasco.
