To add to the extraordinary collection of original works that the Religious Music Week of Cuenca had been amassing over its twenty-six years of existence since its founding in 1962, in 1987 the Week asked the Catalan maestro Joan Guinjoan to compose a choral-symphonic work, which turned out to be this In tribulatione mea invocavi Dominum, Guinjoan’s first religious composition, and which the Prince of Asturias Foundation Choir and the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sabas Calvillo, premiered at the Old Church of San Pablo on 13 April of that year. The work is dedicated to Pietat Homs and takes its text from Psalm 17 (18), Gratiarum actio regis David pro salute et victoria
