Organist at the Barcelona cathedral towards the end of the eighteenth century, Baguer wrote much religious music, and the great oratorios of his late years, as well as one opera, are of particular importance. He also wrote much instrumental music, and, alongisde the organ music and the keyboard sonatas, his set of nineteen thoroughly classical symphonies demonstrate the acceptance Haydn’s symphonies in the Iberian Peninsula.
