Juli Garreta's vocal work is one of the least known parts of his production. The twenty-one songs included in this volume make up the total number of preserved works, but it is likely that some more will appear in the coming years, probably in private archives, because we have heard of more than sixty.

The present edition comes after the Ficta label has published the recording Records i somnis, which collects all these songs performed by the tenor Roger Padullés and the pianist Francisco Poyato. Due to the difficulty of accurately dating the pieces, all composed between 1900 and 1907, it has been chosen to group them thematically based on six axes: songs with content linked to nature, traditional, maternal, love, about death and the passage of time, and religious.

Garreta's songs were part of the repertoire of the most renowned performers in Catalonia until the Civil War: Maria Barrientos, Concepció Callao, Andreua Fornells, Susan Metcalfe, Mercè Plantada, Pilar Rufí and Emili Vendrell, among others. One of the intentions of this volume is to make them circulate again on a regular basis.
