The ballet Don Quixote was composed in 1940-41, with the coreography by Ninette de Valois. Its first performance was given by the Sandler’s Wells Ballet at Covent Garden in 1950 with Margot Fonteyn as Dulcinea and Robert Helpmann in the title role.
