Cadenza is the fifth movement in my Concierto para piano y orquesta composed in 1994-95. To mark Luis de Pablo’s 70th birthday in 2000, Ananda Sukarlan asked me for a piece as a present. Mi Concierto para piano had not yet been performed then: this was to occur shortly afterwards, and at the pianist’s request I decided to present this fifth movement to Luis de Pablo for his birthday, separating it from the Concierto and adding a short coda. The work had its premiere in the Festival Pontino, "Latina", at a concert in honour of Luis de Pablo.
