Josep Vinyals

Josep Vinyals
The last great kapellmeister at the Montserrat monastery before its destruction during the French Independence War (1811), Vinyals was a pupil of and successor to Anselm Viola and Narcís Casanoves. He wrote many sacred works with orchestral accompaniment for the chapel at the monastery, as well as keyboard music, especially for the organ. While he concerned himself with preserving repertory of the old masters, his own style reflects rather the new ambience of Classical style.
