We remember our colleague Josep Dolcet

Josep Dolcet founded the publishing house Tritó in 1994 together with Llorenç Caballero. His work as a musicologist and researcher focused on the recovery of the figure and work of Catalan composers of the Baroque and Classical periods: Tomàs Milans, the Count of Savallà, Josep Mir i Llussà, Domènec Terradellas, the Pla brothers, Fernando Sor... But he also crossed the border of 1800 to rediscover works by Carnicer, Albéniz and Granados.

He did all this work with the conviction that it was necessary to go beyond publishing itself. He collaborated with various orchestras and vocal and instrumental ensembles (Orquestra de Cadaqués, Acadèmia 1750, Orquestra Barroca Catalana, Vespres d’Arnadí, Cor Francesc Valls, La Xantria), always with the aim of putting unknown works of Catalan musical heritage into circulation, both in the preparation of public concerts and in the making of recordings.

In July 2023, the Torroella de Montgrí Festival programmed the oratorio Giuseppe riconosciuto by Domènec Terradellas, a production that has since also been seen in Barcelona and Madrid, among other places. This work by Terradellas was recovered by Josep Dolcet, who published the score in 1996. It is an example of the fertility of his legacy and his vision when it comes to separating the wheat from the chaff.
