Revised edition of this posthumous work for solo piano by Isaac Albéniz, finished by Enrique Granados.
Azulejos is an exceptional masterpiece in many ways. On the one hand, is a posthumous work that was created by two remarkable piano composers: Albéniz and Granados. On the other hand, it has extraordinary musical achievements not only in comparison with the previous musical production of Isaac Albéniz, but also in the context of the new trends at the beginning of the 20th Century. This is a piece that is extremely different from Albéniz’s prior works. Albéniz seeks a new expression, more intimate and limpid, distant from the sonorous ostentation of Iberia, he now searches for a new musical paradigm emancipated from the protocol of the extended sonata form. In his posthumous work we can now find an accentuated modality, a complex texture where the melody acts as the thread of the musical discourse. The virtues of this creation were in deep contrast with the inexact editions that had been done to date. This edition reveals an unknown aspect of the work: the point where Granados continued. It includes, as well, contextual data, a thematic table, etc... We hope that this publication enables the pianists and the researchers to know better the exquisite and special beauty of this piece.
