In order to perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 4 it was necessary to bring together two large orchestras, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León and the Cadaqués Orchestra. Gianandrea Noseda, the then chief conductor of the Cadaqués Orchestra, elicits an energetic and impressive performance. This symphony was scored for large orchestra and illustrates the composer’s rhetorical skills. Effects, dynamic and aesthetic resources accentuate the dramatic content of the score.
