He studied piano in the Liceu in Barcelona. He moved to Paris in 1911, where he studied with Ferdinand Motte-Lacroix and Marcel Rousseau. In 1921, the critic Émile Vuillermoz wrote an article in the magazine Le temps that was the start for Mompou’s international reputation.
He lived in Paris for 20 years, where he wrote works for piano and songs. Back to Barcelona, he worked as a composer and competition jury. He was proclaimed Doctor Honoris Causa for the Barcelona University in 1979, and joined the Sant Jordi Academy of Fine Arts and the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts, among other important prizes and tributes....
