Antonio Soler
A native of Olot and choirboy at the Montserrat from 1739-1745, was Chapel Master at the Catheral in Lleida at the age of seventeen having occupied the same post earlierat the Cathedral in La Seu d’Urgell. In 1752 he became a monk in the order of St. Jerome at the monastery at El Escorial where he lived and worked up until his death. Padre Soler is internationally recognized as one of the most representative figures of his time. His work eminently synthesizes Baroque keyboard music on the Iberian Peninsula thanks to the inspiration and directness of his musical style.
