Passacaglia, by Leonardo Balada, played by the OBC and Ludovic Morlot
On December 1 and 2, the Barcelona and National Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), under the direction of Ludovic Morlot, will perform Leonardo Balada's Passacaglia in L'Auditori, a work published by Tritó in 2000. The the concert program also includes the Concerto for piano and orchestra no. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven, with Lucas Debargue as soloist, the Double concerto for flute and oboe by György Ligeti, with Francisco López and Rafael Muñoz, and the symphonic poem Till Eulenspiegel by Richard Strauss.
Leonardo Balada trained at the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona and at the Julliard School in New York. In 1956 he settled permanently in the United States and served as professor of composition at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh for fifty years. He is considered a pioneering composer in the fusion of ethnic music with avant-garde techniques.
