Ruy is certainly one of the most experienced percussionists teaching in Havana today. He was born in Mexico and came to Cuba in 1957. Later, he graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte. He has worked with numerous and well-known Cuban musicians and bands during the last 20 years, for instance with Pedro Luis Ferrer, Ramón Valle, Santiago Feliú und Ernán López - Nussa. He also joined them on their tours through Europe and Latin America. Apart from the artists already mentioned, he also performed with Gema y Pavel, José María Vitier, Bobby Carcasés, Roberto Fonseca, Felipe Cabrera und William Vivanco. Ruy teaches at the music school "Amadeo Roldán" in Havana. The great deal of sensitivity with which he treats his students is remarkable. His thorough knowledge of the different rhythms, claves and music genres make his classes an experience you won’t forget. He is supported by the musicians of the group "Temperamento".
