Although readily available to scholars, Cererols’s villancicos have been less performed than they deserve.
This villancico is for two choirs of differents voices SSAT and SATB as was usual in Spain.
This edition halves the original note-values. The tempo should be quite fast.
The edition includes an upper stave of the organ useful for the players. There also is a version in English with a sample elaboration for one verse.
The poem, perhaps by the composer himself or one of his fellow-monks, is difficult to translate in English.
