On 23 September 2000, Xavier Monsalvatge finished composing Danse, a setting of a poem by the French poet Léon Paul Fargue. This was to be Montsalvatge’s last song. It was first performed by soprano Angelika Kirchlager - with Melvyn Tan at the piano- on 20 April 2001 at the Winthertur Concert Hall in Barcelona. Danse is dedicated to Montsalvatge’s friend and president of Jeunesses Musicales of Spain, Jordi Roch.
