"This piece, written in the fifties, is inspired by the type of short fanfares traditionally sounded by municipal musicians in church towers in the Germanic world (Turmmusik). The fact that it is dedicated to Picasso is because of my eternal admiration for this artist, whom I consider to be to painting what Stravinsky is to music."
