Joseph Elies could be considered the most famous organist of his time in Spain. Many copies of his manuscripts have survived. In 1712 he won the position of organist in Saint Peter de les Puel·les. In 1715 he moved on to the church of Saint Just and Saint Pastor, both in Barcelona and in 1725 he was organist in the Descalzas Reales in Madrid, position he held until his death.
