Tomás García López (Coronel) was an excellent musician and teacher in his own right: he taught at the Madrid Conservatory and was a charter member of the Arbós Orchestra, which later would become the Madrid Symphony Orchestra.

The bulk of his oeuvre consists of etudes and pieces aimed at students and meant to exploit the technical capacities of the instrument, of which approximately one tenth are for trumpet and piano.
