Juli Garreta's poem "Les Illes Medes" opens the Torroella Festival
The Medes Islands are a small archipelago of steep and wild islets that, in front of the mouth of the Ter, extend the Montgrí massif into the sea. Fascinated and inspired by the beauty of this natural setting, the Empordà composer Juli Garreta wrote the symphonic poem Les illes Medes, which premiered in 1923 at the Palau de la Música. Now, coinciding with the centenary of the score, the work will be played for the first time in front of the islands that give it its name, in an outdoor concert by the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, this Friday, July 14, in the tip of Molinet de l'Estartit. It will be the start of the Torroella de Montgrí Festival, which starts from July 15 to 19 with the edition of the Fringe, focused on the programming of young talents, and continues from July 29 with concerts by top artists level in the Espai Ter auditorium.
