Tritó publishes Four Ballades by the Basque composer Gabriel Erkoreka, awarded with the 2021 National Music Award

Four Ballades is a series of four works for piano, in a clear reference to the four ballades of Chopin or the Vier Balladen op. 10 by Brahms, but does not aim to give continuity to it in terms of its emotional projection. A strong narrative tendency emerges from the title, in a forward movement that, at least here, is turbulently interrupted by different interferences caused by the various materials used.

In each of the pieces, the author has focused on certain materials from the works of the four French composers to whom he wishes to pay tribute: Pierre Boulez, Edgar Varèse, Olivier Messiaen and Gérard Grisey, making the discourse flexible in order to allow deviations towards elements taken from the ballads written by Chopin and Brahms. Thus, in each of the four ballads more or less explicit links are established with the correlative ballads of these two great composers.
