Tritó’s newest score is the Elegiac Oratorio for Baritone, Chorus and Orchestra Illeta by the Basque composer Francisco Escudero. This work comes after Escudero’s Symphony no. 5 "Ultreia" , which we presented just a few days ago. Illeta (Funeral) was finished in 1952. The text is by the Basque poet Xavier Lizardi (penname of José María Aguirre), his personal vision of the funeral of his maternal grandmother in the town of Zarautz in 1930. Thanks to the efforts of individuals, societies and institutions, Illeta was performed frequently in the late fifties in the Basque Country, where it made a significant impact on the cultural scene.
