Was composed in 2002 for the Trío Modus, which performed it for the first time at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid. So far it is my only composition for strings alone. The exceptional capacity for expression, perfect ensemble work and rich tone-colour of this format, together with its virtuosity, are the fundamental qualities that I have made use of in this piece: proliferation of melody, rhythmic development based generally on a single rhythm, multiple diversification of the instrumental colour. Brief gestures in constant ferment, simple forms that evolve into complex developments (continuity-discontinuity) and a certain lyrical emphasis also characterise this lively, and in my opinion, optimistic String trio.
