SPECIAL PROMOTION FOR THE CELEBRATION OF ADDRESS XI ORCHESTRAL CONTEST This edition does not pursue the impossible objective of trying to come close to the version that Dvorák would have hoped for, but rather the more down-to-earth goal of correcting the obvious mistakes in previous editions, by applying common criteria based on the work itself and by employing information provided by specialists who have made a point of detecting these mistakes (from P. Conover, principal librarian of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the notes in the New England Conservatory Orchestra archive, the version by Norman del Mar, Orchestral Variations, and our own versions prepared for the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition). We were also lucky enough to have access to Sir Neville Marriner’s personal notes, something very helpful because, although a conductor’s notes differ a great deal from what an edition needs, they gave us forewarning of very important matters. Our fundamental objective is, then, to provide conductors and performers with an edition where the inaccuracies have been resolved and the historical errors in the score and the parts corrected.
