This work is dedicated to Francisco Guerrero, the composer’s maestro, and was written just three months after his tragic death. This circumstance links the work, according to the composer, to Motete Delicta Juventutis, written by Pierre de la Rue in the 15th century upon the death of Philip the Fair, and in which the composer uses phrases of descending pitch to evoke sadness.
