Recorded for the first time by the choral and instrumental ensemble Mapa Harmónico, devoted to the interpretation of Hispanic Baroque music -with original instruments-, and under the baton of F. Bonastre, the pieces of this CD are a wonderful sample of Catalan Baroque music of the XVIII century, which underwent a great change because of the presence of Italian composers and interpreters in Catalonia. Among its attractive pieces we should point out the Zarzuela al Santísimo by T. Milans (1672-1742), the most singular example of religious zarzuela ever known to all Hispanic Baroque; the Stabat Mater by J. Carcoler (1698-1776), one of the most beautiful works from the later Catalan Baroque; or the cantata "De una medrosa noche" by the composer F. Valls (1671-1747), the author of the controversial mass, Scala Aretina, one of the very few examples of profane music that we attribute to him.
