What else can be said about this work that hasn't been said already? Only that it describes the Christmas as a not many can do. Just a children/women choir and a harp are enough to convey the colorful sound of Christmas. A true asset in any Carols Concert, a guaranteed success.
PS: Of course Britten was not Spanish, but we felt we could not miss his work in a Christmas Newsletter.
These Carols are from a collection of villanescos and spiritual songs for three, four and five voices by Francisco Guerrero, published in Venice in 1589. Arranged for SSATB Choir and edited by Anthony Petti.
