Guridi, Jesús
Vitoria 1886 - Madrid 1961

Organist and composer born in Vitoria (Basque Country) in a family of musicians. At the age of 18 he is accepted in the Schola Cantorum in Paris, and studied organ with Decaux, composition with Sérieyx and counterpoint and fugue with Vincent D’Indy. After that he moved to Liège (Belgium) and Köln (Germany). He was an extraordinary organist, and was Organ Chairman at Bilbao and Madrid Conservatories, and he was also the principal in Madrid.

In those years the liric world was focused on Nationalist aesthetics. His compositions were often inspired in Basque folksongs, and he wrote music in lots of genres: chamber music, vocal and orchestral works, organ pieces, sacred music, opera and zarzuela. He died in 1961.
